Sports at Lenzie Academy
Lenzie Academy was recognised for its modern sports facilities and pupils engagement by Sportscotland and received the Gold School Sports Award.
Pupils enjoy all-weather floodlit 3G astro turf pitches for football and outdoor hockey games. A large main games hall underwent the recent modernisation with basketball, badminton, and five-a-side football games are played by students.
Lenzie Academy also offers indoor gyms for trampolining, gymnastics, and general fitness programs.

The S1 Football Academy
Pupils can get involved in the school football teams as soon as they arrive for primary school. Lenzie Academy runs a training program for S1 pupils with training at 7.30am on Monday mornings. Parents should encourage their children to start football training from first year to start developing their skills asap.
S2 & S3
The football team training is after school at 3:30pm-4:40pm at the main astronomical turf pitch. The Lenzie Academy football team regularly plays Bishopbriggs, Boclair, and Turnbull High.
Girls Football Team
Girls play as part of a collective team from S1 to S4 and train on Thursday afternoons.
The Senior Coaching Academy
Senior pupils in S5 and S6 can take part in the Lenzie Coaching Academy. Received sports leadership training for assistant coaches, mentoring the younger students, and creating and overseeing training.
Lenzie Academy Catchment Area
East Dunbartonshire Council is strict on the Lenzie Academy catchment area. But, the good news is that the school isn’t at capacity every term, so up to 20-40% of pupils come from outside the catchment zone including Woodielee Village and areas of North Glasgow.
With a high number of places available for students outside the Lenzie Academy catchment area, parents who don’t manage to get a place at the other East Dunbartonshire high schools like Douglas Academy, for example. Typically opting for Lenzie Academy.
Parents are required to submit a year’s Council Tax notice, a utility bill, and Child Benefit or a letter from HMRC to prove the child lives at an address in the catchment zone full-time.

Covers areas of Kirkintilloch including the homes adjacent to the canal and the north area of the town.
Auchinloch Primary
Auchinloch Primary School catchment area covers the rural areas including Auchinloch and up to the boundary with North Lanarkshire.

Lenzie Academy New School Plans
Lenzie Academy will be moving to a new campus in 2030, with construction planned to start at the end of 2026. East Dunbartonshire Council will be using its Capital Investment Fund and funding from the Scottish Government’s Learning Estate Investment Programme (LEIP).
After the new Lenzie Academy School is built and ready for use, the council will start the demolition of the old school. The area of the old school in Myrtle Avenue will be transformed into a community parkland and ecological Zone.
The new campus will be located at Whitegates Park off Middlemuir Road/Initiative Road.
The New Lenzie Academy
The capacity for the new Lenzie Academy will be similar to the current school’s 1,400 pupils. With a LEIP funding requirements, the school must be built environmentally friendly with a low carbon footprint.
The old indoor sports hall at the old Lenzie Academy school will be repurposed as a parking space.
The Lenzie Academy catchment area will remain the same and all of the four feeder primary schools will continue to offer guaranteed places at the school.

- Andy Dunlop: Lead Guitarist of the multi-platinum Scottish indie rock band Travis. Andy was once a Lenzie Academy student before finding international stardom and selling out stadiums.

- Rita Cowan: The Mother of Japanese Whisky attended Lenzie Academy from 1908 to 1913. After marrying a Japanese student and moving to Japan, Rita and her husband founded Nikka Whisky Distilling Company. Her life was later made into a Japanese TV series with 150 episodes aired.
